It was OK, but I thought there was too much focus on worldbuilding, and too many elements that just made the world seem strange, as opposed to having a clear purpose. I think that people who like the "feel" of the world will probably like the book, but I don't think I will continue with this series."

One of the particularly nice things about these books is that there is some thing for every one. There is adventure, romance and deep insight without any one thing overwhelming all else. They are also completely kid friendly and still a great read for all ages. I would recommend these to anyone and specifically to people who enjoyed books like the Lord of the Rings, The Chronicles of Narnia, and other fantasy series."

"I read this book for a book club one day and while the leading character does take a trip to the top of a mountain, I'm not sure I would classify this as the best adventure book. There are so many other books that could take that spot. This book is about life and dealing with the fact that you aren't going to be around anymore. It is emotional, angry, bitter, and dealing with something inside you, more than a trip up a mountain. So while it is stimulating, it is not an adventure book in my mind."

The main difference here is there are others that go on the journey with him and there are those who try to exploit the main character's powers for their own gain. A bit of a tropy adventure book but a fun read nonetheless."
